# Add WP\_ENVIRONMENT\_TYPE to default wp-config file

WP 5.5 now includes support for a `WP_ENVIRONMENT_TYPE` constant. It can take the values of `development`, `staging`, or `production`.

Any thoughts about adding `define( 'WP_ENVIRONMENT_TYPE', 'development' );` to the default wp-config.php that is created by Local?

as of 5.5.1, released on September 1st, there will be a fourth environment type, `local`.

I would consider using that instead of `development`.

Also, the next version of Local Development plugin will have the ability to set this new constant.

`develop` branch also will display environment type setting in admin bar when site is in Local.
