### Cannot connect to site via Local router or localhost.

* * *

### I am running linux mint. Install Local, give it permissions then create a simple wordpress site. However, I get an error saying that

Heads-up! Local’s router is having trouble starting. Checking the router log I see the error:

2026/03/13 09:05:04 [emerg] 361321#0: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (13: Permission denied)

Switching to localhost doesn’t work either. In the browser it says this site cannot be reached. In the lightning log I see:

“class”:“Process”,“level”:“warn”,“message”:“2026-03-13T16:05:02.511099Z 0 [System] [MY-010931] [Server] %%userDataPath%%/lightning-services/mysql-8.0.35+4/bin/linux/bin/mysqld: ready for connections. Version: ‘8.0.35’ socket: ‘%%site.runData%%/mysql/mysqld.sock’ port: 10005 MySQL Community Server - GPL.”,“process”:“mysql”,“thread”:“main”,“timestamp”:“2026-03-13T16:05:02.511Z”}
{“class”:“Process”,“level”:“warn”,“message”:“nginx: [emerg] bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (13: Permission denied)”,“process”:“nginx”,“thread”:“main”,“timestamp”:“2026-03-13T16:05:03.622Z”}

Doing some searching, I have checked any other process that is using port 80 or 443 and nothing is on those ports.

I have ensure nginx has the permissions and I have allowed access when the auth screen pops up for permission.
I have tried disabling the firewall, but there is nothing I have tried that will get a site working in Local and I am stuck.

Thanks for the help.

_ **Security Reminder** _
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Here is another troubleshooting step you could try from a similar thread @rupes17

> Thanks for your report, logs and the steps you’ve tried so far, @alonsodude. If libcap2-bin is installed on your system (Local’s installer should have added it for you), Local will attempt to run setcap on the nginx binary after checking with getcap if that’s needed; you shouldn’t need to do it manually, but it’s great that you’ve confirmed with getcap that capabilities seem correct. Do you have AppArmor or anything else that might restrict services on port 80? sudo aa-status should tell you …

Hi Nick,

I’ve attached appArmor output, I don’t think anything is blocking. Most stuff isn’t enforced.

What about the second step advised in that thread above?

> If AppArmor isn’t interfering with nginx, one “last resort” thing you can try is to change what Linux considers to be a priviliged port. By default anything under 1024 is privileged and requires cap changes. You can check the current value with:

Hi Nick,

Thanks. I didn’t try the last resort option, not really needing to create a security risk just for this. Localhost mode seems to work fine so i’ll stick with that.
I’ve tried the setcap commands and while they seem to execute, doesn’t help so not sure why it still doesn’t work. Permission denied in the logs.

Okay, thank you for your patience with this @rupes17. I’m glad localhost is at least a solution for the time being.
