Missing pictures and special characters not displaying properly

Hello,
I have imported a site and I am facing two issues.

  1. Some single pictures and picture slideshows are missing.

  2. Special characters are not displayed properly
    For instance apostrophe like ’
    and german characters : ü, ä, ö

What could be the reasons for these problems ?
