# Unable to start site - MySQL Error

### What issue or error are you experiencing?

I am experiencing an issue with **Local by Flywheel** where MySQL fails to start, preventing me from accessing my local WordPress site. The error message states:

**“Uh-oh! Unable to start site. Lost connection to MySQL server at ‘reading initial communication packet’, system error: 0.”**

Additionally:

- Reinstalling Local **did not fix** the problem.
- No WordPress version is displayed in Local.

Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Welcome, @Faysal_Shipu, and thanks for this report.

Your logs show that MySQL can’t write to a directory it needs write access to:

```auto
[ERROR] [MY-013129] [Server] Can't create/write to file ‘%%userDataPath%%\run\yYjV4qCfE\mysql\data\???.pid’ (OS errno 2 - No such file or directory)

[ERROR] [MY-010092] [Server] Can't start server: can't create PID file: No such file or directory

```

This can happen due to antivirus or security software that sometimes prevents Local and MySQL from writing files.

I am still facing the same problem—I cannot create a new site due to this issue. I have followed every step you mentioned, but nothing has worked. I am exhausted from trying to solve this problem, as I have been dealing with it for almost 15 days.

Sorry for the trouble you’ve had with this, @Faysal_Shipu, I completely understand your frustration.

So far I cannot reproduce the error you see with Local 9.2.2 on Windows.

Do you have plenty of free disk space?

Are you running Local as an admin user?

- I have **around 10GB of free disk space** available.
- I am running **LocalWP as an administrator**
- I have also tried disabling my antivirus and firewall, but the issue persists.

Do you have any other suggestions or troubleshooting steps I should try?

Let’s first check if this is specific to MySQL 8.0.35 (the latest version of MySQL that Local supports).

You can do that by trying to create a site using the previous version, MySQL 8.0.16:

1. Click the + button (bottom left) to add a new site.
2. Choose “Create a new site” and click “Continue”.
3. Give the site a name and click “Continue”.
4. Change from “Preferred” to “Custom”.
5. Choose 8.2.23 for the PHP version, nginx for the web server, and MySQL 8.0.16 for the database. Click “Continue”. MySQL 8.0.16 will download and Local will try to start your site.

If that works, let us know — it at least gives you a workaround for now.

If it doesn’t work, please could you share your logs again after the site fails to start?

Windows. I downloaded 9.2.2. Got error, can’t connect to MySQL server. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Downloaded 9.2.0. Created Custom site instead of Preferred.

I had already done steps by changing to Custom. I installed MAMP. There was message so i deleted Local but still getting some error. I am stuck

You’re still getting the same error in MAMP as well?
