Where Are My Emails Going?

I can access my wp site through the Local app because I’m logged in. I am using the Local Version. I need to share it with tech support for Spectra Blocks Pro but can’t enable Live Links without signing in again but Local won’t accept my password.

When I request a new password, the email never arrives. I installed WP Mail Logging, temporarily enable SMTP and was able to send and receive a test message. But that is the only one that’s come through. I’ve tried for a new password multiple times in the last two days.

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @ShawnTDE! To clarify are you trying to log into the profile icon within Local at Local Hub?

Or are you trying to login into the Admin area of your WordPress install?

@ShawnTDE If it’s the WP admin that you’re trying to sign in to, all emails sent from WP are captured by a tool called Mailpit (unless the site has a transactional email plugin installed, active, and configured). This helps keep development emails from being sent to others during your work. You can read about accessing Mailpit in Local here: Mailpit - Local

Thanks for the response. I was able to find Mailpit (with the additional help of AI) from the Local app. None of the previous password change request emails are shown there, nor are the password change confirmation emails that I made through the WP portal under Users. However, with the Mailpit window open, I was able to receive the Users password change confirmation I just did.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t solve my problem of not being able to enable Live Link, which won’t accept my password, and is the whole reason for this post. According to AI, Live Link uses a different verification process. I’m at a loss. Any ideas on this?

Thanks for the response. My challenge with the passwords started because I need to share my site by enabling Live Link. When I try to do that, Local doesn’t accept my password, even when I change it on the WP site for Users.

I managed to find the Mailpit access and the latest password reset, thanks in great part to Burt, who commented on this post. But the only email I’ve received is the Users password reset I just did which AI says is only because I have the window open, due to a glitch. And Live Link still won’t accept it.

And AI says Live Link uses a different verification system.

Any thoughts on that?

Hi @ShawnTDE. To clarify are you talking about this login screen?

Or are you talking about the authentication on the Live Link itself when someone tries to visit it in the browser?

The first one: the Local login with the white background.

Hi @ShawnTDE thank you for clarifying. I don’t see an account in Local Hub under the email address you’re using here in the Forum if it’s the same. So you might need to create an account first to be able to log in. The credentials here would be separate from your WordPress site admin user for example.

With the MailPit plug in activated, I’ve been able to see emails that are going to the dummy email address created by LocalWP. Although I don’t need Live Link anymore because I found the problem I wanted to share a video of, I just tried again to enable it. No luck. Hopefully won’t need it again.

Okay thank you for the update @ShawnTDE. I’m glad you’re set for now but if you need more help down the road keep us posted and we’ll be glad to troubleshoot further. We are hard at work on a Live Link update in the near future that should also help make things a bit smoother.
