Add Windows system tray support

I have a solution!

First, I want to apologize if I say something wrong as English is not my native language.

I’m using Windows 11 (and maybe this works on Windows 10) and when I want to hide the program that is open I press the keys (Win) + (Tab) and move Local to another desktop and go back to working on the main one.

Hope this helps someone. I created an account just to reply to this thread hahaha

Hello @fabriziofeitosa thanks for sharing. I have been using the same solution in Windows 10. However, this creates a need for back and forth switching of windows when I need to access Local settings. Also with 4+ desktops already, it’s a search to figure out which Window I place Local in.

It would be nice to have that feature on Linux too. Also, can we change the title to make it reflect other operating sustems, not just WIndows?

Hi @junglized! Thank you for your comment! It looks like the majority of users in the thread are specifically talking about Windows but we will keep other OSes in mind to reach as broad a group as possible when investigating this request further.

+1 for this feature request. I’d really like to get rid of the Local window when tabbing between different windows.

Would be really nice if we can minimize to tray. The amount of times I accidently closed Local by clicking on the X…

Hey, everybody.

I wrote a little add-on that does just that.
I’ve had this working for a few months now without any problems.
I’ve only templated it on Windows, but it will most likely work on Mac as well.

I’d be glad if this helps anyone else.

Thank you for sharing @SumoTTo!

I tried your add-on and it works on Windows 10! Thank you for making this and sharing it with the rest of us. <3

Will all do respect, this is insane. Requested since 2017 and still nothing? Having an extra window in the way of alt+tabbing is absolutely workflow breaking, especially when designing and testing websites.

I don’t understand how such a fundamental feature is still being overlooked and the ever-present window forced on everyone.

It was said in 2021 that this isn’t worked on in favor of improving the core experience. This is the core experience.

Thank you for your feedback here @localdigital - I’ve checked with our Local devs and they’ve bumped up the ticket for this but we still don’t have a firm ETA to provide on when it will be rolled out. Thank you all for your patience and communication with us as always :green_heart:

Eh, thanks but I just realized someone posted a working add-on earlier. So, all it takes is to integrate it? Anyways that add-on solves the issue but thanks to a third party.

Glad to hear that add on works for you @localdigital! As mentioned we’ve got this on our roadmap, and we’ll share any updates here along the way.

I can’t believe it’s 2025 and this is not a thing on this app. This request was made in 2017 and again in 2022 and STILL after 8 years this is not implemented.

I started using this app a few months back and the first thing I noticed when using it is that it does not close to system tray. I’ve seen waay more basic apps that have this feature.

This is really not hard to implement. I am dumbfounded. Votes or not for this, this is a feature that any app like this requires and should be in the vanilla app as a standard feature.

It should be out of the box able to close to system tray. As a new user I am honestly disappointed.
