Can't create sites

Issue Summary

I just local on a new machine and am trying to pull a wpengine site using API credentials. It connects, begins the pull, and then I get a popup with un-copyable error message; see screenshot.

Troubleshooting Questions

• Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular?
  I have no sites yet-fresh install

• Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser?
  No, I make a new site and get the same error

Security Reminder

Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

That “Permission Denied” message basically is telling you that Local can’t create a folder at:

/Users/ben/Local Sites/vaas

Are there any security settings in place, or maybe an antivirus software that would be locking down access to this folder?

Can you please provide your Local Log so that we can get more info about the things that Local is running into? See this Community Forum post for instructions on how to do so:

I don’t think so; no antivirus running for sure. I recently re-installed the OS on this machine and that’s when the error started. Sorry, thought I attached the log the first time. Here it is

There’s not too much else in there, mostly just confirmation that the computer is preventing Local from creating the site folder.

What are the permissions for the default folder at ~/Local Sites ?

The easiest and most specific way to tell what those permissions currently are is to open a terminal and issue these commands:

stat ~/Local\ Sites
ls -alh ~/Local\ Sites
