Can’t open directory from Local
Right click on site in Local, select Go to Site Folder
Instead of immediately opening the corresponding folder, MacOS finder hangs forever and is unresponsive

Have you tried any reboots of Local and your machine yet?
Have you noticed any other slowness with Local or your machine getting bogged down during other tasks?
The first thing I tried was restarting the machine.
There isn’t anything else besides VS Code open, and the Activity Monitor shows about 2 bars max when processing and 1 bar max when idle. The Activity Bar doesn’t even jump up to anything greater than 2 bars when taking this action. It takes a whopping 75 seconds before the corresponding directory is revealed!

On the other hand, if I was to perform a similar action with VS Code to show me an origin of the same file or directory, the Finder responds instantaneously. This makes me believe the issue doesn’t reside with the Finder.
If you create a new, blank site in Local does it do the same thing?
If you click on Go To Site Folder underneath the site name instead of using the Right Click does that open or hang as well?
Never used that contextual menu to open site folder but I can confirm that the problem exists on macOS Ventura as well so it’s not isolated to macOS Sonoma. However the Go to site folder button in the top of the website panel/screen right under the website name works and open the site folder immediately.
You know something you’re right @emmtre - I can replicate this on Ventura as well. I’ve never noticed before because I always click on the option at the top of the app under the site name. I’ll run this by the devs and see what might be going on.

Glad you can at least use that as a workaround for now @djmtype! We did some testing and figured out that this is a recent bug that cropped up around Local 8.0 but doesn’t happen on earlier releases. The Dev team is onto it now and we should have it resolved in an upcoming release. Just FYI @emmtre as well and thank you for the help!
When I try to use the “Go to site folder” function on Local on MacOS Sonoma, nothing happens in Local, but the Finder app crashes, and needs a “Force Quit” to restart Finder.
For any local site, select “Go to site folder” option, by right-clicking on the site name and then selecting from the popup menu.

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

If you create a new, blank site in Local and try clicking on Go to Site Folder does that crash as well? Or is it just for this specific site?
Did it work normally before the update?
FWIW I can replicate this when using the both the right-click on the site in the sidebar or the dropdown. When clicking on the button it works as expected.
Thank you for jogging my memory on this @afragen! We did find there was a recent bug with clicking on it from the drop down menu, but using the Go To Side Folder widget under the site name should still work normally.
Hi @Nick-B. I’m afraid I did not try this before the update, and yes it is the same behaviour with a brand new site. Thanks to @afragen who posted below: I had not even noticed the “Go to site folder” link at the top of the screen, and this also works fine for me without crashing Finder. It is just the right click on the item in the site list which seems to have issues. It is brilliant software, BTW - saves so much time!
Thank you for the follow up @lavamitts! Glad that you found the other button and it works for now so you have another option. It looks like the bug is still open with our Dev team as they’ve had to prioritize other work but I’ll update them with this thread. I’m also going to merge this with our previous Local Forum post in order to keep all communication in one place.
Hi all - we tracked down the root cause of this bug and have it patched up in our latest release, Local v8.2.1. This is available in Beta now - Local Beta 8.2.1
