What’s New in Local Beta 5.6.4

Big Sur Compatibility

The bundled version of PHP 7.3 has been recompiled to work with macOS Big Sur.

Additionally, PHP 5.6 and 7.4 have also been recompiled to work with Big Sur. If you have already downloaded PHP 5.6 and 7.4 in Local Beta, you will need to manually remove them and let Local redownload the services.

Here’s how:

  1. Quit Local Beta if it’s running
  2. Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Local Beta/lightning-services in Finder
  3. Remove any of the PHP directories you see in lightning-services
  4. Restart Local
  5. (Don’t skip this step otherwise you might get errors during the step below) Create a new site with PHP 5.6 to have Local re-download PHP 5.6. If you also need PHP 7.4, hot-swap the version to PHP 7.4 so it also gets downloaded. At this point, this site can be deleted.
  6. Try starting the existing sites you were having trouble with.

Note: we know this process can be a pain so we’ve made plans to add a Lightning services updater this year.

Improvements

  • When pushing to WP Engine, Local will now trigger a backup if there hasn’t been a recent one and wait for the backup to finish prior to continuing with the push
