Hi there, It seems like this is a recurring problem that affect a lot. I haven’t seen a topic for mac os and latest Local versions.
I tried solutions form other topics, including powering down the instance in VirtualBox, and erasing everything from /etc/exports, and nothing has worked. I’ve waiting for a while (one topic mentioned waiting for 10-15min), and still stuck.
Here are my logs:

Any help is appreciated! I’ve had this same issue a lot lately. Last time (still on 2.1.1) I had to completely reinstall the app. Anyway, thank you for the work you put into Local, it’s a great app when it opens!
It’s getting really difficult to rely on Local for daily work
Tried doing Help > Restart Local Machine, and the latest log mentions something about it being unable to restart Docker Machine. Not entirely sure what that means tho… Here are the logs of the latest try:

Ended up uninstalling Local completely, but keeping the sites folders and following this to recover them: How can I restore a site from a Local site folder?
This is the second time in two weeks that I had to resort to this
I love the work you guys do, and that it’s distributed for free (thank you!), but the unreliability sucks. Hope you get this stuff figured out.

I also just found my site not working after trying it for the first time in a while. When I stopped and started in Local, I got infinite progress icons.
So then I opened VirtualBox.app, starting to follow @clay’s advice on some other thread. It said there was an update available so I downloaded/installed it. Then the next time I ran Local, both my Sites had red exclamation points next to them, and a banner on top reading
Error! Container is missing. You will need to restore this site from a backup or previous export.
Seems weird that upgrading the VirtualBox app would do anything with my data. Anyway this is Local 2.1.2 on macOS 10.13.2. Gonna try upgrading to the 2.2.1 Pre-release but if there’s anything obvious I’m missing, it’d be good to know.
Ok, my site is working again. After I installed Local 2.2.1, it let me start Local. When I got to my list of machines, the weird “Missing container” error was gone. But when I tried starting one, I still got the infinitely spinning arrows. So I followed these instructions in a several-month-old thread.
I got no errors at the terminal on the last step, so I restarted Local. My sites still had exclamation points, but this time the banner warning of a missing container had a nice big “Restore Site” button in it. Clicking that gave me a bunch of status messages about provisioning stuff, made me re-authenticate for the hosts file changes, and then my site was accessible again.
