I see another user posted that this issue was related to the VPN they were using:

Chrome - Unable to determine IP address from host name

SHARED: I had a problem trying to view my newly created local site in Google Chrome. The error that displayed was: “Unable to determine IP address from host name xxxxx.local”. I discovered Hotspot Shield VPN plugin was the problem. As soon as I disabled this, my site was immediately available to view in the browser. I hope this helps anyone with the same or similar problem.

Could that be the case for you as well?
