Creating a Snap of LocalWP?

Not sure who to reach out to or who to even ask, but with the difficulty of installing Local to certain Linux distributions (no support, missing dependencies, etc.), I would like to create a Snap for easier installation on all Linux distributions, not just the officially supported ones. Anyone have any idea if this is allowed since Local is proprietary?

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Thank you for creating this request @cmccullough! I’ve reached out to our Dev team to discuss potential alternatives or enhancements for these distributions and we already have a lot of thoughts brewing on this. We’ll keep you posted with any updates here once we’ve talked things through.

Thank you. I would be more than happy to work on creating the Snap, if it’s allowed.

Honestly, I think there would be MANY more users of LocalWP on Linux if it were easier to install. I think that many, when they hit the dependency issues during the install, just stop and move on to a different platform.

Thanks for this feedback, @cmccullough. The Local team plans to revisit how Local is packaged for Linux. I don’t have a timeline for this just yet, but wanted to mention that it’s on our list and this feedback has been useful!
