Download Atlas Configuration into Local from WP Engine

Issue Summary

I had created an Atlas + Wordpress instance directly inside of WP Engine using one of the Atlas blueprints. I was able to connect to my Wordpress site on WP Engine using the “connect” tab in Local. However, only the wordpress portion was pulled into Local. The part not clear to me is how can I download the Atlas/ Node.JS configuration for a site that is already deployed to WP Engine. This is more important for new developers that I want to onboard to help contribute.

Hi @rmgoodm - Welcome to Local, and thanks for trying out Atlas!

A full “Connect to WP Engine for Atlas” project is on our roadmap, but it is not fully supported yet in Local. That just means that when you push and pull sites between Local and WP Engine using Local Connect, the front-end pieces aren’t picked up - as you have noted.

Good news: there’s some great documentation by our Atlas team on how to do what you’re asking. Here’s the link - Local App Development Overview

You’ll use Local to pull down the WordPress portion of the site the first time you’re spinning it up, but everything else is done via Git. Check out the Frontend App Configuration step on the link I posted for more info and let us know if you have questions!

Thanks for the explanation. Is there a way to link the local git folder to the Local project, so that it can be located and run from the same place, like a new site from the blueprint?
