Whenever I try creating a new site, it gives me an error that says
Error Installing wordpress for xyz(site name).
Please help.

i think i found the reason why it doesn’t work. check your OS version . if it’s an older one chances are the local application is compatible with the latest OS and so you might need to upgrade your OS. Else you can also download a stable earlier version of local from the releases which might be compatible with your current OS version and it will work just fine. I downloaded an earlier release of local and it worked. Hope it works for you too!
