Error. Not able to create local sites

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I previously created a site on local, but after I closed the app and tried opening it up the next day I get an error. So I tried adding another site and I couldn’t. I therefore deleted the site and the app and reinstalled, but I have the same problem. Please help

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @IbrahimV

We have a Windows Troubleshooting guide below that goes over some common items worth checking. For example, make sure you’re running Local as an admin user, that you don’t have any security blockers, and that Local has access to update your Hosts file.

ok thanks Nick. I’ll check this out first. :+1:

I have done all the things that had been mentioned. But i am still not able to create a site.

Are you still getting the EPERM error pop up or is something else happening?

the same error

You’ve made sure your Hosts File isn’t set to Read Only?

You’ve checked for any antivirus, security, or firewall applications that could be blocking Local?

i just checked the hosts file again. and it now has read only as checked. after just unchecking it. not sure why.

If it keeps going back to checked, you might not have administrator privileges under your user. So you might check that, and also that you’re running the Local application as administrator.

If this is a device issued by an employer, then you may have to consult with someone from the IT team as it might have locked down privileges. If this is your personal device however you should be able to get things going

this is my personal device. i hope so too

i made sure im running as administrator but still has the same error. please help me fix this. thank you

In order to refresh here and start with a clean slate could you give the below troubleshooting steps a try?

  • If you happen to have any sites in Local already, export and save them. If you don’t you can skip this step. Backup a Local Site - Local

  • Fully uninstall Local from your computer using your OS specific steps here: Uninstall Local - Local

  • Install the latest version of Local on this link: Releases - Local

  • Once installed, please restart the computer.

  • When the computer is restarted and turned on, double check again that your Hosts File is not locked, that no security programs are interfering and that you are running Local as administrator.

  • Check and see if the issue still persists. If so, please provide us with an updated log: Retrieve Local’s Log File - Local
