Hi, my MacBook SSD died and lost everything on it. Luckily most things were backed up in the Cloud, including the install directory of Local. So I have all the folders and files, but just copying them back does not get me back a ton of work (the sites do not show up in the list).
I apologize for the delay here! But I am happy to help!
If you have the files for the sites, we’ll just need to create a .zip archive of the wp-content folder and the backup.sql file in the database directory.
Once you have compressed those into a .zip, you should be able to drag that archive and drop it onto local to recreate the sites.
Thank you so much for trying to help me. I really appreciate it.
The wp-content folder was easily found the file “backup.sql” not so much. I do have a ZIP-file of the entire thing. Would you be willing to look at that if I share it with you?
You should be able to zip up the entire site folder and drag-and-drop it onto Local.
This doesn’t always work since the database is only written to disk when a site is stopped. If that’s the case, then you might need to find and use a different backup to restore the site.
If the site was never stopped, this may be why there isn’t a backup.sql file. Because of this, I often recommend getting in the habit of stopping sites that aren’t being worked on so that the database is exported fairly regularly.
It’s also a good idea to export the site as a backup every so often. I’ll do this after major milestones within a project.
Thanks for your help Ben. Sadly there is no backup.sql to be found (I’d swear I stopped it several times though). Guess I’ll have to get over it and get going at it again.
