I am new to Local coming from Desktopserver and I am currently doing some simple tests with it and running into an issue.
What issue or error are you experiencing?
When I create a site I get the following warning
The site seems to work and I am not sure if this warning is an issue? If anyone knows if it is an issue and how to solve it please let me know.
However, when I go and delete a site I get the same warning and when I look at where local installs the site it is still there. The folder with all subfolders and files are still there. Local doesn’t delete it.
I did untick the Read only option of the host file.
Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.
This is a completely normal part of Local. The prompt you’re seeing is to allow it access to the Hosts File in order to add/remove/edit files. If you’ve updated it so it’s not Read Only you should be able to proceed again. If you’re still having trouble you’ll want to make sure nothing is preventing Local such as the below:
I have turned Kaspersky off before testing as I noticed that if I left it on, it would result in this warning:
When I turned it off that warning would go away. So I need to fix hat as well. But I wanted to fix this not deleting the folder issue first.
Why wouldn’t Local delete the folder with the site? Kaspersky is turned of so that can’t be it. Is there something else that could stop it from deleting the folder?
Generally it’s a security or permissions issue along the line preventing Local from accessing/removing what it needs to. Are you running other developer applications simultaneously? That could also cause similar issues. Apps like MAMP, XAMPP, or Docker for example.
No nothing like that. The only things I am running in the background that start with Windows are:
Dropbox
Koofr (similar to Dropbox)
CaptureWizPro (a screenshot tool)
ClipboardFusion (a clipboard manager)
Acronis Cyber Protect Home (a backup manager) with Active protection against ransomeware turned off
Pop Peeper (an e-mail manager).
Could it be Windows firewall itself that’s causing the poblems?
I’m uncertain at what else could be conflicting here as it seems specific to your setup. Generally for our Windows users going through the steps I linked above resolves the issue and they can proceed.
Is there any change if you switch your Router Mode to Localhost?
Preferences>Advanced>Router Mode>Localhost
You could also try a full uninstall/reinstall at this point making sure to save any work you might have.
If you click on the Profile icon in the upper left hand corner of your Local app and drop it down you’ll see an option for Preferences and then you can go from there!
