Issues running on Windows 10

I’ve been trying to get Local to work on various Windows 10 computers with no luck.

I’ve now tried it on a 100% fresh install of Windows 10 and it still doesn’t work.

Issues observed:

  • Local URL doesn’t load
  • Random error messages (too many connections after only a few seconds and a few page clicks)
  • I try to update WordPress, and even on the first attempt it says there is already an update in progress (this is with the ‘WordPress Beta Tester’ plugin installed, attempting to install the nightly build)

Here’s a video of issue 1 (local url doesnt load).

It seems to me that the issue must be bigger than myself, since it is the same on a fresh install.

Hi @ovann86,

There is an issue with Edge and VirtualBox. It’s an ongoing topic:

Please try running the site in Chrome or Firefox.

Thanks for the reply - that sorts 1, I can’t reproduce 2 (perhaps it was an issue specific to the web url) and 3 … well … are these WP installs meant to be able to talk to the internet? Because they now don’t appear to be. Can’t search for plugins, pages that normally do web requests take about 15 seconds to load (like it’s trying and timing out).

Im having same issue on windows 10

Hey LevelCreativ.

The first issue I was having was specific to Edge and Internet explorer - you should find it works better using Chome or Firefox, but that still leaves you not being able to use Edge/IE for testing.

Honestly … I spent several nights trying to get “Local by Flywheel” working on my Windows 10 computers, trying various configurations and fresh installs of W10. I don’t see anyone else having issues so I’m thinking they’re all using the Mac version. I’ve now given up, it was unreliable and hideously slow for me.

The concept is great but the delivery on Windows 10 is lacking any real usefulness.

Hey, ya its sad because its a great concept but it seems theres no support or money behind it. Id be willing to pay a yearly fee or something to get better support and more development on the windows end. Funny thing I have 50 sites and do prob 20 a year this would of been cool, but its def slower than just doing an ftp install - I use managewp and project huddle -i dont even think project huddle is compatible…but you cant even contact support directly on here…

To be fair I think they just came out with windows version…maybe it was released too early when it should be still beta

Oh and i dont even see a setting to select what browser the sites open with…you think that would be a selection.

Actually its Midnight here, and everything is now working lightning fast. Ive added 5 sites and its snapping from page to page instantly? So hmmm??? Not sure what that means.
