Live Link not displaying correctly for Clients

Issue Summary

Live link display works on my computer but not for clients. The site my client pulls up is missing images as well as styling. I know it isn’t my Internet provider that would cause this.

Troubleshooting Questions

  • Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular?
I only have one site I’m working on currently, but I haven’t had it happen before.

  • Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser?
I should be able to, but it’s taking Local a while to create the site.

Replication

Describe the steps that others can take to replicate this issue. If you have screenshots that can help clarify what is happening, please include them!

In the two mobile ones Images, Icons, and styling isn’t working. The client has the same issue on desktop. The other image is a log of errors I get when going to the site via live link.

System Details

  • Which version of Local is being used?
    Version 5.10.3+5332

  • What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?
    macOS Big Sur Version 11.2.3

I’m using Divi for my theme on WordPress. Web server Apache, PHP Version is 7.4.1, WordPress Version 5.7, Database is MySQL 8.0.16.

  • Attach the Local Log. See this Community Forum post for instructions on how to do so:
    local-lightning.log (80.8 KB)

Since the url contains ngrok, that means that this is the free version of Live Links, and has some limitations.

Issues like this were one of the reasons that we created our own version of remote access called “Live Links Pro.”

I think you have two general options going forward:

  1. Use Live Links Pro: Live Links Pro Help Doc

  2. Use a staging server to push your changes up for client review

I usually lean more towards the second option for client review, since there’s less chance of things breaking during a meeting (This is covid time – kids ripping the router out of the wall, comcast is messing with the lines again, etc…)

For quick shares of work-in-progress with your team or nimble client, then Live Links is definitely a good tool!
