Hi there,
I just installed Local and imported my site via Jetpack (it’s hosted on WordPress.com). I want to experiment with different themes.
I uploaded a new theme and saw that it went to the live site instead of the local version.
I’m using macOS Big Sur and Local version 6.1.4+5521
I am able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a browser with no problem.
Here is the log file: local-lightning.log (39.3 KB)
Disclaimer: I’m not a professional developer
Thanks in advance for your help!
Pam
Hey @pamhughes , Welcome to the Local Community Forums!
There’s a few things to consider:
- What’s the Site Domain for the site in Local? You’ll need a different domain than the live site so that you can access the local site separately. You can change the Local site’s domain name from the Site Overview tab in Local:

- If changing that domain doesn’t help, then can you describe in a little more detail how the site was imported into Local?
Hi Ben,
Thanks very much – changing the site name worked!
The site doesn’t seem to be an exact copy of my live site. For example, the theme is activated when I look at the dashboard, but it doesn’t show up in the imported version. And none of the widgets are there, either. I imported it using Jetpack backup – it’s hosted on WordPress.com, so I don’t have a lot of choices in terms of backup plugins.
Any ideas?
Pam
