LocalWP cannot update create any website says cannot update hosts file

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I just installed LocalWP on my new MacBook. When I try to create a new website I get this error:

Error: Error: spawn Unknown system error -86

Local ran into a problem when trying to update the hosts file.

Please ensure that the hosts file is not locked by anti-virus.

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

System Details

  • Local Version: Version 8.2.1+6583

  • Operating System (OS) and OS version: Apple MacBook Pro M3 Pro - macOS Sonoma 14.3 (23D56)

I downloaded the Apple Silicon version. Is that the right one? After some Googling, I see I might need Rosetta. Is that true?

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

SOLVED: You must install the Apple Rosetta before creating a new website. Very easy. Just follow: How to Install Rosetta 2 on Apple Silicon Macs
