Solving Challenge

I have started setting up my new WordPress site on the local platform. The challenge that I am experiencing is the error message that I get, which tells me of the problem that I have regarding MySQL platform, which is not operational and therefore is not allowing for my new site to be set up.

I am attaching either the link to the message I get or the attachment itself. I would be appreciative of getting assistance from the community on how I could solve the problem, and then get my site up and running. Can I get assistance.

Hey @Tshepo

If you’re seeing this error something you can try is opening Windows Task Manager and killing MySQL. Something might be stuck or duplicated in there that needs to be closed before your site can start.

If you’re still having trouble, check and see if you can create a new, blank site in Local and access that okay. If you can, then you may want to try reimporting the site getting the errors. The steps would look like this:

  • Locate the site files on your machine, and save a copy of them to your desktop. If you click Go to Site Folder under your site name it should take you right to where they are located.
  • Once you have those copied, completely delete the site from Local
  • Restart Local/your machine
  • Reimport the site back into Local. You can refer here on how to Restore from only Local site files

Hi Nick-B,

Thanks for the assistance in helping me get WP-Local to work.

I followed the steps you suggested, first by opening the Task Manager. I did this through the path CNTRL+ALT+DEL and got the options on what I wanted to do. I chose Task Manager, and on opening it, I could not locate where MySQL was. It did not appear on the list. I tried to create a link below for you to access the task manager details, but in the event you are not able to access it then you can check the screen recording I made of the Task Manager.

C:\Users\tmodise\AppData\Local\Temp\svchost.DMP

As you can see from the attachment, I am not able to open the SITE FOLDER as it is not “live”. I have deleted the site to start afresh more than once, and I kept getting the same message.
Please refer to the attachments, and maybe they might give you a better picture of what steps to take to solve the problem.

I hope you find everything in order and that you will be able to assist.

Hi Nicky-B

Thanks for your assistance in getting WP Local working. I have had challenges and have tried to document them via screenshots.. I tried first with Task Manager, and from the list it gave out, there was no MySQL. I could not locate it. When it comes to locating the files on the site I created, from my SITE FOLDER, I could not open the folder as it is not “live” as it shows on the attachments.

Please refer to the attachments; maybe they will tell a better story to enable you to pinpoint where the problem lies.

I hope you will be able to assist in helpin me get the local WP working once and for all.

I am looking forward to your help.

Could you provide some more details to help us take a further look?

  • What is your OS?

  • What version of Local are you on?

  • Please attach a copy of your Local Logs

Keep us posted and we’d be happy to help further!

Hi @Tshepo! I don’t see any response from you here with those details. Would you mind replying to this comment with that information? Keep us posted and we’d be happy to help further!

Hi @Tshepo

Could you provide some more details to help us take a further look?

  • What is your OS? WINDOWS 2010 is the operating system that I use.

  • What version of Local are you on? The latest one that is available on https://localwp.com

  • Please attach a copy of your Local Logs. I have not been able to launch an option to set up a new site. I do not get the option to set up a new site. I only get up to opening up the site platform and logging in. Once I do that, I do net further get the option to set up a new site. Another thing is that I can only access the site via typing in of the site link name via the browser. I cannot access the site if I click on the LOCAL icon from my homescreen.

This might be a good place to start, @Tshepo. Below is our Windows Troubleshooting guide, which covers some common items worth checking. For example, ensure you’re running Local as an administrator, that you don’t have any security blockers, and that Local has access to update your Hosts file.
