First, thanks for creating such a great tool for local WordPress development!
I’d like to request a feature to add MariaDB 10.6 as an available database option within Local WP. Currently, I believe the newest is 10.4.
MariaDB 10.6 offers some performance improvements and features compared to earlier versions. As managed WordPress hosts (like Cloudways) increasingly use MariaDB 10.6, having the option to develop locally with the same database version would improve environment parity and reduce potential compatibility issues.
Would it be possible to consider adding MariaDB 10.6 as a future option within Local WP’s database settings?
Thank you for raising this @john-savepoint! I’ve checked with the Local team and they’ve got a ticket in to get the MariaDB version raised up. We don’t have an ETA on when this will be ready but we’ll share an update here once that’s released!
Both database versions on local seem to be released 4 years ago, I am getting messages from wordpress that the version I am using on my live site ( 10.3.38-MariaDB ) should be updated to version 10.4, the latest 10.4.32 is 10 months old, the version on Local is 10.4.10
Would it be possible to add a few more MariaDB versions so website could be tested with them please.
Regards
Clive
Thank you Ben, I think this is a great resource and I think it would be really useful to add newer versions of all the parts (php etc) to keep up with wordpress developments.
WordPress 6.6 became available in July 2024 and recommends MariaDB version 10.5 or greater. see : https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/.
It would be great that LocalWP supports this version, and even 10.6.
Our team has a ticket filed to look into updating this eventually, but we don’t have any sort of ETA to provide. Our usage for MariaDB in the Local app is very low so we have to prioritize other items that are more pressing.
Hi, this is still a problem ocal is running on 10.4 Mariadb is stable on 12.0 Wordpress is asking for 10.5 is it unreasonable to update this to say 10.10. as a testing program being more up to date should be a highr priority
Thank you for reaching out @cwjs! I’ve merged that previous thread with this newer on and reached out to the Dev team to discuss updates for MariaDB. We’ll share any updates here.
MariaDB 10.6.23 is available on Windows now. Choose “Custom” after naming a new site, then find it in the “Database” drop-down. No Local update is required if you’re on a recent version.
The next version of Local will also ship with 10.6.23 by default instead of 10.4.32.
