Using LocalWP for WordPress Core Development/Contribution

After following 3 threads I found this feature request and a beautiful blog post from my friend @afragen WP Core Development with Local Lightning – Surgical Diversions

Which I’m about to embark in hopes that this will be the first time I spend more time actually writing code to contribute to core than I do “setting up an archaic build environment and then figuring out SVN”

Anyone else doing this? Tips? Pain points?

Also, please go vote for that feature request. A “one click setup” of a LocalWP environment to contribute to core would be a HUGE benefit to the WP project.

Years ago I used to help folks at WordCamp contributor days get setup with VVV. Most didn’t even get through the VVV install process, even experienced coders. Those few that did at most got to the point of testing a patch. I think ever single person left frustrated it was so complicated, confusing and time consuming.
