XML import from Wordpress hosted site (premium not Business)

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I have an XML export from Wordpress which hosts my site. The xml is about 10MB and my site with images about 12GB. I setup the local site and then said import from Wordpress. I setup the information requested by the import button and pressed submit. Progress bar in browser starts. After some longish time I get a 405 error.

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

Press import button submit! Happens every time. After the 405 error the local site has no content.

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @davidmct!

Is it possible to get a backup from your hosted site in the form a zip file? If your host doesn’t provide one you can use the free WP Migrate Lite plugin to make a full site export and then drag and drop that into Local to do the native import. WP Migrate Lite – Migration Made Easy – WordPress plugin | WordPress.org

Sadly Premium level on Wordpress no longer supports plugins. Business would cost GBP384! Was hoping to avoid that or having to do for one month then revert.

What about the steps here? Can you extract a backup using one of the methods here?

Even if you can just get the contents, then you could zip the WP-Content and SQL up on your desktop after extracting, or you could use our manual import steps here: Manually Import a Local Site

I had a quick look. To create the backup in the first place needs a business plan  I’ve been playing with the php/nginx settings and local v site in router_mode. local didn’t work at all ie safari couldn’t see the server even though it was running. I also added local to the firewall etc.

To cut a long story short having given up on the local route which I was using to check problems in networking parameters and going back to site domains in the router mode the pages all appeared. I haven’t yet been able to confirm if anything got dropped.

Is there any way to do this automatically?

Going back to the XML route, because of the size of your site you might be able to do a fresh import but break it up into chunks. You might also try manually increasing the import limit. Details on all of this here:
