My understanding is that the only way I have to export an existing WP site to Local is:
Go to the cPanel and make a copy of the /wp-content folder to my local computer
Go to php MyAdmin and find my database. Click on it then click on EXPORT, “Quick” method, then Format “SQL”. Click GO and save it to the same place the wp-content folder is located on my computer.
Create a zipped archive file from the two items (contend from /wp-contend and export from my database)
Import into Local.
Yes? If the above is true, using the XML export provided by WP is useless. Correct?
Thank you
You should be able to use WP’s .xml export as you would on any WordPress site, so that should work, or the four step process you outlined. Whichever you find best for your workflow, really.
Thank you for the reply, That is great news.
One more question: does it mean I need to zip the WordPress XML file so that the Local upload routine recognizes the file??
Thank you for the precision, and your response brings up another question:
How do I create a Local site where I can import the XML file that WordPress
provides?
Is a a link to a Local Help/User Manual you could send me on this?
