Can't reinstall local after deleting all previous files windows 11

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I’ve had local installed for about a week, but yesterday it crashed and I could not stop my sites or close the app. I decided to delete the program to install it again, but I could not. Whenever I am at the stage of the download to my SSD disk I get the first saying “Local could not be closed, please close manually” When clicking on try again I get the same message pop up. When I click the message away it tells me that it cannot delete old program files and that I should try to run the install program again which I have done and I get the same messages. I have tried to manually go into my files and delete every single local file and then try the download again but still the same message.

I have tried the install for both only me and also all users, but still, it does not work.

Whenever I have the installation for one user clicked in there is a text saying that there is already a “one per user installation” on my SSD disk and that the installer will reinstall it/upgrade it.

I really want to use local and I think the program is an awesome tool to create free websites for my clients.

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

Here is the translation for the image:
"Choose if you want to make this software available for all users or just you

  • All users that use this computer(all users)
  • Only for me(my name)

There is already a one “per user”- installation (The file I am trying to download it in) Will reinstall/upgrade"

When I choose the other option for all users the bottom text says that it will install for all users and that it will need admin.

Here is a screenshot of the messages I get when I try to install the program for all users(is also the same when the installation is just for me)

The message says: “Local can’t be closed. Please close manually and click on try again to continue”

Clicking try again gives me the same message.

If I click on cancel(Avbryt) on that message this is the message I get:

The message says: It was not possible to delete old program files. Try to run the installing program again"

If I do I get the same results.

System Details

Local 9.0.5(I think)

Windows. Windows 11.

Local Logs

Attach your Local Logs here (Help Doc - Retrieving Local’s Log)

I have not been able to download it local so there are no local logs.

Just want to say that any help on this will be very appreciated, I am making a page for my client’s website and I need to send it to him on Wednesday this week.

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

I have now been able to install local by deleting the app from Windows ( I could not find it in any files at first so I thought it was deleted, but it was not)

However. The local program can’t open now and I have no idea why, do you have any advice on this?

After I used the already existing topics in here that related to my problem I have now been able to reinstall local, and get it up and running again.

Here is the solution that worked for me:

I had to completely delete local, including the app, website files and the hidden configuration file in appdata>roaming>local. (You might have to stop processes that use it)

Once that was deleted I reinstalled it again on my main C disk(SSD) and local could be installed and I could also open up the program.

Now I can get back to using your amazing program guys!
