Help with editing php files through theme editor

Hi i been using Local on Linux, but since there isn’t Photoshop or the software i need for work, i had to install it on my Windows 10 pc, the problem is that i can’t edit php files through Appearance > Theme Editor which i could using Local on Linux.

Everytime i update a PHP file it shows this message:
Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.

is there a way to fix this?
