How to import a site from .zip in Flywheel 2.0

Hi Guys,

Just wondering how to import a site into Flywheel in the new version. I don’t see an option? Am I missing something?

Thanks

Hi Dylan,

Simply drag and drop the archive onto the Local window or Dock icon

We’re adding this to the “File” menu in the next update.

Does the database file have to be a .sql or can it be the zipped version .sql.zip?

Haven’t tested for .sql.zip but works if you have a .sql in the archive.

The importer requires you to have at least the wp-content folder and an SQL file in the root of the archive.

I have been trying to replicate my site within Local, but am not having luck

-downloading the wp-content folder
-exporting and downloading the database
-zipping them together
-dropping them onto Local
-Local then creates a regular, blank wordpress install.

what am i doing wrong?

Hey @justradar, sorry to hear that you’re having issues with replicating your site. If you would, please try the following:

  1. In the sidebar menu, right-click on the site you’d like to replicate and select the Clone option
  2. Test the newly cloned site to see if it works

If that doesn’t play nice, try this instead:

  1. Start up the site you want to replicate by clicking Start Site
  2. In the sidebar menu, right-click on the site and select the Export option
  3. Click Export Site on the next screen
  4. Choose a destination to save the file
  5. Import the newly saved file by either dragging and dropping it within Local or using File > Import Site

Let us know how it goes.

what i’m trying to do is to take my staging site in flywheel or take a site from another host … and get it to my local setup.

can you give me better directions, here is what i’ve been trying:
