How to Update LocalWP without to change MySQL version?

In the past I had issues after LocalWP update because of newer MySQL versions brought by updates.

How can I update LocalWP while maintaining the same MySQL version as before update?

Hi, @EvgeniyO. Local’s release notes will say if new versions include a change to MySQL:

https://localwp.com/releases/

Recent versions of Local have not changed MySQL versions.

It’s not possible to upgrade Local without MySQL if a new version of Local ships with an updated MySQL version. But you can always back up your sites before upgrading in those cases. With the exception of the Intel → Apple Silicon transition, Local does not upgrade MySQL versions of existing sites, since new MySQL versions in Local only apply to new sites you create.

Exactly that was my issue: LocalWP update updated MySQL version of existing site to 8.0.35 - and it shot down wpDataTables plugin because of upper/lower case of certain DB column.

Sorry for that, @EvgeniyO. We only made the update from 8.0.16 to 8.0.35 on Apple Silicon to transition users from the Intel binary to the Apple Silicon one. We don’t anticipate making other ‘automatic’ MySQL updates between versions now that Local includes an Apple Silicon MySQL build. I would expect future MySQL updates to apply to new sites only.

I’m on Win11 fyi

Local 9.2 applied the MySQL 8.0.16 to 8.0.35 upgrade to Windows 11 too. From Local 9.2.2 onwards we changed this to macOS Apple Silicon only.

We have no plans to upgrade MySQL for existing sites for future versions of Local. But you can always check the release notes before you update.
