Importing website not working

Hi all

I have recently discovered ‘Local’ out of the need to create a staging website (I have found out the hard way that a staging website is really really crucial! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I am trying to import my website into Local but I am experiencing a few issues:

  1. Error establishing a database connection This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down. Are you sure you have the correct username and password? Are you sure you have typed the correct hostname? Are you sure the database server is running?

  2. Uh-oh! Could not update hosts file
    Local ran into an EPERM error when trying to update hosts file.
    Please contact a support if this persists

Steps taken so far.

1.Ran Local as administrator - import - uploaded website - uploading of files begin & is successful - error msg #2 (see above) - ‘adding’ wheel spins forever without any actions.

Solutions taken so far:

  1. Set ‘Local’ on Kaspersky as a trusted app
  2. Set host file as trusted ( C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc/hosts)
  3. Checked the Hosts file to make sure ‘read only’ was set to off.

When the Local app is closed and then opened again, the imported website seems to have been imported. However, when clicked on ‘Admin’ or the ‘view site’ an error msg regarding connection to the server is displayed.

I realise this is a bit of mess but any advice and guidance would be great,
