Installation on a different partition

Hello Everyone!

Could someone please provide with some instructions for installing local and everything related to it on a different partition?

I am using DeepFreeze and whenever i reboot i have to reimport my sites at the moment.

Ideally, the installation, the vm images and the sites would like to be installed on D for instance.

Any help would be much appreciated!.

Kind regards,
Tom

Hey Tom,

Right now there’s no way to specify it during the install but you can move the VirtualBox disk after the fact. Here’s how: Is it possible to move the disk.vmdk file and relink it to Local by Flywheel

Then, when creating new sites, change the Site Path to use the other disk.

Hi Clay!

Thank you very much for your prompt reply!!!

Will do as advised and let you know…

Kind regards,
Tom

Hi Clay!,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you but was just trying to figure out what was wrong.

I followed your suggestion and the vm is on a different partition but the problem still remains.

Reason is that important files holding information about the sites are still in my C drive.

So if i reveal local’s log i am taken to “C:\Users\usr\AppData\Roaming\Local by Flywheel” which is of no good as this directory is reset with every restart.

Problem is sites are not successfully imported either as it seems that the db and various files are not restored during the import process.

Any further suggestions?

Kind regards,
Tom

Hi Tom,

I’ve looked at the installer and it doesn’t look like there’s a way to easily change the directory that it installs to (%LocalAppData% by default).

I did find this forum thread where someone ran into a similar issue with DeepFreeze: https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21388098/Deep-Freeze-and-Application-Data-Folder.html

Not sure if that’s a route you want to go but it might be worth a try!

By the way, I went ahead and made a note to make it easier to install Local on different drives on Windows.
