Instant Reload 502 error

What issue or error are you experiencing?

Both the front page and dashboard no longer display with a 502 error. Please help me get them back to normal.

I have tried the following:

  • Change the domain.
  • Change the web server to Apache and back to nginx
  • Change PHP version to series 7
  • Update or downgrade Local
  • Restart the computer
  • Set Local as an excluded application in Kaspersky
  • Put Kaspersky in silent mode

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

System Details

  • Local Version: Version 9.1.0+6719

  • Operating System (OS) and OS version: Windows 11

Hi @Tassi516_jp

What happens if you create a new, blank site in Local and access that? Does it work or do you get an error?

Hi, @Nick-B
The new site can be displayed without problems.

@Tassi516_jp

Have you tried opening your site shell and disabling plugins or swapping the theme? It could be that there is a conflict in the site’s configuration that is causing the error. You can click on Site Shell in the Local app under your site’s name, and then use a command like wp plugin deactivate --all

@Nick-B

Yes, I have tried each of these.

And I found the cause: with Instant Reload enabled, I get a 502 error. When I disabled it, I could open the site.
Why is this happening?

I’ve tried replicating with Instant Reload on my Windows 11 machine but I’m not seeing an error. Could you try completely disabling/removing Instant Reload and then adding it back and see if that helps to reset?

Ive just updated my local on Mac though and I’m getting exactly the same.

You’re getting a 502 error when Instant Reload is enabled?

Yes exactly that, seems to fix it as soon as i disable it!

Thank you for confirming!

If you completely uninstall it and then add it back does the issue persist?

I’m assuming you’re on the latest Local version? Could you verify your MacOS version as well?

Yes im on the latest version of local and yes the issue still persists if I uninstall instant reload and reinstall.

Hi guys!
Since I updated to Version 9.1.0+6719, I am getting error 502 when “Instant Reload” is on. The problem doesn’t occur when “Instant Reload” is off.
Has anyone encountered this problem and can help me? I am using Windows 11.
Thanks!

Thank you for letting me know @jonathanFeel

@the_w4 some others above have been running into the same issue here. I’ve merged your post and changed this topic to a bug. The Local Devs are aware and are looking into this! Thank you for your patience and communication here.

3 posts were split to a new topic: Error after Updating

I’m on a Mac (macOS 14.0 (23A344) and I just updated local to version 9.1.0+6719 and I get the exact same issue. Disabling Instant Reload “fixes” the issue, but I need Instant Reload to work as it is crucial to my workflow.

Any solutions yet?

Our team is implementing a fix for this and we should have a patched Local version out soon. Stay tuned and thank you for your patience with us!

Hey guys, appreciate you’re working on this, but just wondered if you knew of/had any kind of short-term workaround to get Instant Reload working again?

Hey hwbhurd - make a roll-back to the previous vesion (worked for me) - you just have to keep closing the update-reminder.

Thanks Joachimsthomsen - appreciate it!

Thank you @Joachimsthomsen! Also for @hwbhurd or anyone else wondering you should be able to use Instant Reload in Localhost mode as well (Preferences>Advanced>Router Mode>Localhost).
