That’s correct, there isn’t an easy way to enable additional PHP extensions within Local. See this related topic that also is asking about webp:

Hey @realoj – Welcome to the Local Community Forums! There currently isn’t good way to enable additional PHP extensions. We do have plans to improve our “Lightning Services” functionality, which you can think of as basically the way the Local bundles up pieces of server software like the version of PHP.
