Live site not updating changes from divi builder

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I am trying to make minor updates on my site using divi builder, changing a word, and changing a visibility on mobile view. All looks good on builder but when I check the live site on my phone or other computer the updates are not reflecting. I have checked all caches, I am not running a cache plugin, I have tried the host support and I am still not able to make updates.

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

I have published a new page which is not able to be accessed.

I also have a SSL certificate issue on chrome, where the certificate is not trusted, only on chrome and only on my mac - on phone it is fine.

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Hi @sbrownie408

You might have to clear Divi cache/css to see changes:

Depending on where your live site is hosted, you might also have to clear server cache.

Thanks Nick - I’ve already tried that multiple times, and spoken to my host who said there was no server cache to clear. I’ve also updated Local, updated chrome, have the latest mac OS, and followed numerous helpful articles on clearing browser caches, etc etc.

For additional info - the changes are reflected fine on live link

@sbrownie408 so how are you getting the changes from your Local site to your hosted site? Are you pushing using Local Connect or using a migration plugin?

ummm … I’m opening my site via Local, which takes me to wpadmin, then changing with divi builder, then saving.
That’s all.
Am I missing a step somewhere?

You may have just solved my issue … It sounds like I need to be pushing to the host somehow, which is amazing that three days of talking to the host support (VentraIP) nobody there asked that.

Hi @sbrownie408 - That is correct. Your Local version of your site is a completely separate instance of your site, a “copy” if you will. So anything you do in Local won’t update on your live site, and vice versa unless you take actions to push/migrate the Local site to Production, or pull/import the Production site back into Local.

ok so i can use Local Connect?
I asked my host if they supported it and they’d never heard of it, they just keep insisting that when they test changes their end it works fine and that I should clear my browser cache.
But does that mean I have to pay to host through Local Connect as well as the Australian host I am using? If I go to Local - it offers two options, Flywheel or WPEngine hosting?

Hi @sbrownie408

Are they saying they are making changes in Local? Or are they just making changes on one of their sites and saying that works? If it’s the latter I think they are just confused and maybe not familiar with Local. If you only need to make small edits or changes then maybe it will be easier to just do those on your live site, but for larger projects or testing updates you can use Local to make sure nothing will break your live site.

For clarity, Local Connect only works with WP Engine and Flywheel currently as far as WordPress web hosts go.

That said you can still use just about any migration plugin as an alternative to move your site from Local to a host. Or you can export it from Local into a zip file, and upload the contents manually.

I’m not familiar with VentraIP but you might ask if they recommend any specific migration plugins or methods if you need to update your site.

Thanks Nick - you’re amazing.
Yes I think you’re right in that they’re making changes on my site but at their end it’s on the server, and no i don’t think they’re familiar with Local at all.
So … I’ll check their site and see if they recommend any migration plugins … for larger edits I now understand that the Local site is a local only test version, and to get it live I need to move it to the live site myself … with with a plugin or uploading the database again.
Thank you once again. My next site build I’ll use WP Engine or Flywheel so that I have easy sync and push/pull capability.
