Local 5.10 gets stuck after requesting admin rights to hosts file

Issue Summary

As title, Local starts adding a new site (using defaults) but doesn’t make any further progress after admin password is requested and entered. I wonder if there are two requests for admin password but the second fails because there’s already a password request box open, I get a PolicyKit Information box stating that ‘Another authentication is in progress. Please try again later.’, I have to dismiss this box before I can enter a password in the ‘Auythentication Required’ box, but it never asks for the password again. When I add a site to Local on the Mac installation it requests a password twice.

Troubleshooting Questions

  • Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular?
    Only tried creating new sites so far on this installation. Always happens.

  • Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser?
    No.

I discovered a brute force method to fudge a way around this… after dismissing the PolicyKit box and inputing the admin password, add another site (thus forcing another password request), dismiss the PolicyKit box again if it appears and enter the admin password, wait for some processing to go on, maybe a couple of minutes, then delete the new site just added… which forces another password request. This final password request seems to allow the original site to complete installation. It’s a total fudge and not recommended. During my testing of this fudge one site installed successfully and was accessible as expected, another was left with ‘Adding…’ next to it in the site list even though all of the details were complete in the Overview and the site was accessible. Still needs a fix in this linux version IMO, either pause between password requests or advise some tweak to Lubuntu security policy.
Stopping the sites didn’t change anything, restarting Local removed the ‘Adding…’ bit.
