New Site Setup / Password Prompt - Host Files

When creating a new site in Local, it asks for the system’s PW. “Local Password Prompt”
Password is correctly entered, and will not complete.
You can cancel it, and complete the site install.
But I imagine this is messing up some file permissions.

additionally, this hang up happens securing the site as well

Any help to remedy would be appreciated.

Running latest Mac OS 15.2 (24C101) and Local Version 9.1.1+6738.

Hi @phillmamula - to clarify this would be the password for your device, not for your Local site or Local Hub. So the same password you would use to log into your user account on your Mac. Is that the one you’re using?

Yes of course.

Is this a personal device? Or one issued by an employer?

Personal device.

I am not mistyping my password

Thanks for confirming @phillmamula

I just tested on my Mac device using the same MacOS and Local versions and I was unable to replicate the problem.

You might try a full uninstall and reinstall of Local using the MacOS specific steps in our uninstall guide here:

Of course if Local was working for you in the past and you have any sites or work you need to save you’ll want to copy those files first so no work is lost. If you can’t get an export to work you can manually search for your Local Sites directory on your device and copy the files from there.

Another option might be to try and create a new user on your device, and see if the issue persists when switching to the alternative user account.

Those are helpful troubleshooting.
Do you know if there is a permissions directory i can find in my Mac OS to investigate as well? Maybe it’s a read/write rule in authorizing?

If you go to Applications > Local you can use these steps to check privileges quick:

  • Right-click (or Control-click) the file.
  • Select “Get Info” from the context menu.
  • Scroll to the “Sharing & Permissions” section at the bottom of the info window.
  • Here, you’ll see a list of users and their corresponding permissions (Read & Write, Read Only, etc.).
  • If needed, click the lock icon at the bottom, enter your password, and adjust the permissions.
