Local cannot write to hosts file - OSX

I installed Local on my laptop. My desktop works fine but this laptop installation gives the notice:

"Local ran into a problem when trying to update the hosts file. " Contact Support
and “Warning! Missing hosts entry. This site may be inaccessible. FIX IT
”

The output of terminal command; ls -la /etc/hosts
is
-rw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 3930 Dec 28 16:04 /etc/hosts

Mac OSX Sierra
Local 2.2.1

Please advise ASAP.

"How do I retrieve Local’s log file?" for instructions on how to do so.
