Local Lightning on Mac cannot establish a connection to WordPress.org

I think the instructions here are out of date:

I’m on Mac High Sierra using the latest version of Local (5.6.8+4514).

My Local site doesn’t connect to Wordpress.org, meaning I can’t do updates (I get a curl timeout error). My local site is also very slow.

Thanks for the heads about the out of date help docs, I’ll make a note to review them and update as needed!

As for why this his happening, usually with a curl timeout that means that something is preventing Local from making a connection to WordPress.org.

Do you have any antivirus software installed?

Can you also please provide your Local Log so we can take a closer look at what’s going on in Local? See this Community Forum post for instructions on how to do so:

I have Sophos Antivirus, but I tried disabling it with no effect.

There’s not too much going on in that log file.

Is there anything special about the connection to the internet? For example, are you using a VPN, or any other tool to manage the connection?

Are you able to take a screencast of where you are seeing this message?
