Local overwriting hosts file

Issue Summary

When starting Local I’m asked to allow Local to modify my hosts file. I mistakenly added a live URL when setting up a local installation. When I delete the lines in hosts, Local writes them back in again.

System Details

  • Which version of Local is being used? 6.4.2+6012

  • What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?

    • MacOS 12.12.1

Where are you updating those URL’s? In the Local app?

Hi Sam, yep, it was in Local itself.

The hosts file shows the URLs like so (local one for reference)

::1 www.website1.local #Local Site
127.0.0.1 website1.local #Local Site
::1 www.website2.com #Local Site
127.0.0.1 www.website2.com #Local Site
