MacOS Symlinked Themes No Longer Work

Issue Summary

I always symlink themes under development into the Local Sites installation for testing. Recently these symlinks can no longer be followed by Wordpress resulting in server errors:

failed to open stream: Operation not permitted

System Details

  • MacOS 13.0.1

Turned out to be a MacOS-level setting to give Local permission to access to the Documents folder. It is completely unknown to me how this setting got turned off.
