Moving LocalWP Website to My Host

My LocalWP on my iMac desktop, for some reason, has been reacting very slowly for several days. I would like to move the site, using All in One WP Migration, to my host (SG), finish and then launch it. Can I do that? How?

System Details

  • Which version of Local is being used? 6.6.1+6281

  • What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?

    • iOS = Ventura 13.2

I’m using a Divi layout. Will removing the section & modules that I am NOT using in the design and moving them to the library, increase the speed of accessing each page?

Hi @lbohen - thank you for your question!

Yes, you can move your site with a tool like All in One Migration to SiteGround - you’ll export the site and then import it into the WordPress site on Siteground.

As far as increasing the speed of your site, I’m not sure that moving sections & modules to the library would help.

Have you reviewed this article by Elegant Themes regarding optimizing Divi?

Sam

Sam; Thanks for your comments.

The Divi Speed Optimization guide is for increasing the loading speed (front-end) of a Divi website. My idea of removing sections of a Divi layout while in LocalWP was that it might speed up working on my iMac for the building of a client’s website. Building on my iMac should be very quick to save changes, move from page to page…, but it’s NOT on my iMac.

Hi @lbohen - aha, I see.

I agree with you, building should be quick on your local device.

Are you experiencing these same things with the default theme? Have you tried that?

Are those sections of the Divi layout very heavy? For example, lots of images or dynamic content?

Let’s see if we can figure out a way for you to keep developing locally!

Sam

Yes, the Divi layout I am using for this client was heavy in images. I have saved Divi sections, that I am NOT currently using for the design & build, to my Divi Library AND selected them from the layout. I think I am seeing a slight increase in the layout’s reaction time (saving, changing, opening). I am not aware there is any dynamic content in the layout.

Hi @lbohen -

Yes that might be slowing down the speed while you’re editing.

A few other suggestions -

  • Do you have extra plugins (especially ones that maybe extend Divi’s functionality, etc)? Those might slow things down as well.

  • Are you building on the “Front End” (Visual Builder) or “Back End”? That sometimes makes a difference depending on the content of the page.

Sam

Very few plugins in the design / build phase. I will add a few plugins after I get the website to my SG account.

I use Divi Visual Builder.

Hi @ibowden

If you’re still experiencing performance issues in Local we have a guide here that might be helpful in rooting out a culprit and resolving the problem:

If you’re moving your site using All in One migration, there might be some extra steps. You can search around the forums as we have many users who prefer this plugin. This one might be helpful:

As far as what we recommend it would be WP Migrate. If you wanted to give that a try you could start here: WP Migrate DB Pro Quick Start Guide - Delicious Brains
