Troubleshooting Questions

  • Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular?
All sites and “new site defaults” in Preferences

  • Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser?

Replication

Change “New site defaults” of “Sites Path” to C:\Sites

System Details

  • Which version of Local is being used?
    Version 6.1.5+5536

  • What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?
    Windows 10 Pro

So where exactly are you trying to save the sites to?

In the File explorer, I’m seeing a location like:

C:\Sites

But within Local, I’m seeing a path to a OneDrive folder.

I want to save to c:\Sites…

Sorry the screenshot has the previous path because it wouldn’t save.

Thanks for that additional info! At this time Local can’t save to that location. Are you able to create a new site in your user’s folder called Sites ?

Yes, I was able to create the folder c:\users\sites and use that one. Without it being in my profile which is more convenient. I tried running Local as administrator but that also didn’t give enough permissions to use c:\Sites.

Does Local use some kind user that needs specific access?

Side question: in what language is Local created?

I don’t know the specific reason that Local can’t use a folder outside of the User’s folder, but it’s likely related to permissions issues and all of the odd edge-cases associated with file permissions under Windows.

Local uses lots of different technologies! The main app UI is using Electron, but there’s all the other things related to server software that are being used too (php, mysql, apache, nginx)
