Uh-oh! unable to start site (used before)

What issue or error are you experiencing?

I’m not able to start my site or open wordpress. I closed the application and when I started it back, I got the message seen on the picture. I read this could be an error because of using a special character in my user name but no because my user name is only “jeanl”.

However, when looking at the folder “C:\Users\jeanl\AppData\Roaming\Local\lightning-services” I see many folders with a “+” character at then end…

Why is it that way and how to resolve it?

What steps can be taken to replicate the issue? Feel free to include screenshots, videos, etc

Security Reminder
Local does a pretty good job of scrubbing private info from the logs and the errors it produces, however there’s always the possibility that something private can come through. Because these are public forums, always review the screenshots you are sharing to make sure there isn’t private info like passwords being displayed.

Are you able to create a new, blank site and access that okay?

I did that the other day because I had the same problem! I had to create a new site to make it work again. But, now, this is the second time it’s happening again. I had to reboot my computer and the same problem happened again! I don’t want to have to recreate my site each time I close the application or reboot my computer. What is causing this and how to resolve my problem? Would you have a solution?

When you’re done working on your site do you select Stop Site before you quit the application? If not you can you try that next time? When you leave the site running and close out of Local it might be creating a stuck process that then conflicts when you try to Start the site the next time.

I allways do stop SIte before exiting the application. I wonder why it happens each time I start back the application. To me, it looks like it can’t find the localhost port. You didn’t find anything wrong in the Local Logs file?

This is very weird. My computer had some Windows updates overnight and now Local WP works with my local site. I wish I could understand why this problem happened twice before.

I’m glad to hear things are working again for you @CyberDynamite! Looking in the logs I see what looks like some issues with permissions and potentially the database for the site.

There are some concerning errors like this but they don’t appear after about two weeks ago, so that may have been resolved by an update or other change.

Your database may be corrupt or you may have copied the InnoDB tablespace but not the InnoDB log files

Regarding the permissions errors, we have a Windows Troubleshooting guide below that goes over some common items worth checking. For example, make sure you’re running Local as an admin user, that you don’t have any security blockers, and that Local has access to update your Hosts file.
