Unable to start site "Site Won’t Delete or Open – Local by Flywheel Freezes"

Hi LocalWP Support,

I’m experiencing a serious issue with Local (by Flywheel) on Windows that I haven’t been able to resolve despite trying all recommended steps.

I attempted to delete a site named alorax, but after clicking “Delete,” Local enters a loop showing “Deleting…” and never finishes. I’ve left it running for hours, and the site stays stuck in that state. I also received a message requesting administrative privileges to modify the /etc/hosts file, which I granted.

What I’ve Already Tried:

  1. Ran Local as Administrator
  2. Cleared host cache and DNS
  3. Manually checked the Local Sites folder (It shows as empty)
  4. Tried to reinstall Local
  5. Disable firewall/antivirus temporarily
  6. Checked system permissions
  7. Ran diagnostics and rebooted multiple times
  8. I tried deleting the site folder manually, but it still shows in Local as “Deleting…”
  9. I tried creating new sites, but the locals failed to respond correctly.

I would appreciate your assistance. I’m on a tight schedule and need this resolved so I can continue building WordPress sites.

System info:

  • Windows 11 (x64)
  • Latest version of Local (from the official website)
  • Site Web server: NGINX
  • Admin privileges: granted

Sorry that you ran into this, @Ahmada.

You could try backing up and removing your sites.json file, then importing sites manually into Local again.
