Website Loads Intermittently

Issue Summary

A site copied down from WP Engine loads sometimes, but most of the time the browser just spins and spins. There are no errors in debug.log and I’m not sure what I’m looking for in the local-lightning.log file.

Troubleshooting Questions

  • Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular?
It’s every website on the new Local. Previously, I was using the classic version of Local.

  • Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser?
Yes, I was able to create a new site and it appeared to load without any issues. The problem is that the loading issue seems random. It will work fine for a few minutes, then suddenly I can’t load any page in the admin or on the frontend.

  • What solutions have you tried?
I’ve tried all kinds of solutions to fix the problem:

  1. Switching from https to http.
  2. Exporting and importing the site again.
  3. Using Query Monitor to check database requests.
  4. Restarting Local.
  5. Following performance tips for using Local with Windows 10.
  6. Reinstalling Local entirely.
  7. Adding a ton of exclusions to Windows Defender including Local files and a number of processes.
  8. Switching to a different browser.

Replication

I can’t provide steps to replicate it because it’s so sporadic. Essentially, just loading a page on the admin or frontend stops working entirely. Eventually the site fails with a timeout error.

System Details

  • Which version of Local is being used?
    Version 6.0.0+5444

  • What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?
Windows 10. This issue did seem to start after running a Windows update, but I don’t know if they’re related.

  • Attach the Local Log. See this Community Forum post for instructions on how to do so:
