Windows not launching the latest version of Local

Hi,

I’ve just downloaded the latest version of Local for my Windows 10 and I cannot launch / open the application. What should I do?

There are a few things you can check here to see if they resolve this:

  • Do you have any antivirus, security, or firewall applications that could be blocking Local? If so, can you try temporarily disabling them or see if they have a setting that will “allow” Local to proceed?
  • Can you check if your Hosts File is read only? Help! I’m running into an EPERM error with the hosts file on Windows
  • Are you running other developer applications simultaneously? That could also cause similar issues. Apps like MAMP, XAMPP, or Docker for example.

Thanks for your quick response. I am running only Windows Firewall (no other antivirus or security applications).

Also, I checked my Hosts File and it’s set with the correct configuration aka “unchecked”.
Lastly, I installed WP Studio only after Local could no longer start. Literally, nothing happens when I double click the application for it to launch. hmm

Are you running this application as an administrator as well?

yup, running this application as an administrator as well.

You said you are running Windows Firewall but did you check if Local is allowed in there?

You’ll have to go to Windows Security > Firewall & network protection > Allow an app through the firewall > And then a list should pop up and you can be sure Local is checked.

If that’s all done and it’s still not opening, I would try a full uninstall/reinstall using the specific uninstall steps for Windows here:
