Backup from different Os

Issue Summary

Hi Everyone,

I had local in my Macbook and It crashed last week so had to take a backup of all the files.

I have the backup of the whole folder called Local Sites.

I have a different Windows 10 machine.

I installed local in there and paste all the folder there and can see It has the same folder architecture as app > cong and logs.

I thought when I copied and pasted the backup in my Windows machine I would be able to browse the website fine, but none of the sites are appearing in the local software.

Is there any way I can make the sites from my backups come alive in the new installation of the local sites folder ?

Troubleshooting Questions

  • Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular?

  • Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser?

System Details

  • Which version of Local is being used?

  • What Operating System (OS) and OS version is being used?

    • For example: macOS Catalina or Windows 10 Professional
  • Attach the Local Log. See this Community Forum post for instructions on how to do so:

The ~/Local Sites folder only has the site files. Local also has a configuration folder that contains the “run” files, which are basically the raw server files for the site (so DB files, PHP config, etc)

Probably the easiest thing would be to move those sites to a different, temporary location, for example, on you Desktop, and then zip each site into it’s own archive.

From there, import the site by dragging and dropping the zip onto Local so that the actual server environment is created. See this help doc for more details about restore a site from only the site files:
