Issue Summary

When trying to access the wp dashboard in my local wp staged version, I get a 410 error on the screen.

Troubleshooting Questions

  • Does this happen for all sites in Local, or just one in particular?
    It happens just for this particular site.

  • Are you able to create a new, plain WordPress site in Local and access it in a Browser?
    Yes I am.

You might be running into a known bug that we patched in the latest Beta release below. Can you give that a try and see if the issue persists?

Hi @nialusby

It looks like there might be a conflict. Are you running other developer applications simultaneously? That could also cause similar issues. Apps like MAMP, XAMPP, or Docker for example.

Do you have any antivirus, security, or firewall applications that could be blocking Local?

Hi, I don’t have any of those apps or firewall, antivirus or security blocking Local. I browsed through the Router mode document but to me it’s still very unclear what I should do. The error is still the same. Can I please get further help on how to go about this? I really need to run this local environment.

In order to refresh here and start with a clean slate could you give the below troubleshooting steps a try?

  • Export any sites that you have on Local and save them to a folder somewhere on your computer.

  • Fully uninstall Local from your computer.

  • Install the latest version of Local on this link.

  • Once installed, please restart the computer.

  • When the computer is restarted and turned on, close any applications that automatically run in the background (AntiVirus, Firewall, and other Developer applications included).

  • Check and see if the issue still persists. If so, please provide us with an updated log. Retrieving Local’s Log File

I followed all the steps carefully and now I get a 403 forbidden error.

I’m a new user, and disregard / delete this post if need be, but I too cannot get to the dashboard on my 2nd site. I can on the first site. I just downloaded and installed your local software last night.
Also, when importing the 2nd site, using WP Migrate Lite, the site domain name and SSL had a www in front causing SSL trust issues in the web browsers. The first site I imported the same way did not do this, -no www added. So I wiped the 2nd site, started over, and removed the www as part of the config, and presto no SSL issue this time around. However, there is no dashboard in the menu at the top left. I go straight from signing in to the .local site

Does the site have any security plugins installed? Or is this a new, blank site?

If you change your Router Mode does that make a difference? (Preferences>Advanced>Router Mode)

What is the plugin configuration like on the site? Are there any security, redirection or user management plugins installed?

There is no way for me to access the dashboard or backend if it is there. So yes presume its not there.
I have only been trying this 2nd site several times and get the same thing. I can look at trying a third.

Does your machine have plenty of disc space available?

Are you running any other developer applications or have any security features you could check for Local blocks?

74Gb free.
None other dev running, though Mamp is installed (not running) which I want to get rid of if Local proves to work.
Don’t forget the first website runs fine no issues with nothing interfering.

Did you try creating another new, blank site yet and see if that works the same way or not?

Your router logs are showing a lot of connection issues, so it seems like something is interfering or not syncing up, but it’s curious that your original site is still working without issue.

You could try the steps I outlined here to export/save your site, and then do a big refresh by uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

hi, created a new site, no import, yes can get to the dashboard all looks normal. So something weird with the 2nd site import. However the first site was also a import.
Shame the WP Migrate lite (free) only works one way for export, otherwise could verify further by importing into the plugin in a dashboard that is up and running.

It’s not a new site. Changing router mode doesn’t really make any difference. I noticed, however, that security system’s settings can’t be modified by me, they are handled by the administrator. Could this be the reason for the 403 error? Is there any way around it?

@nialusby, did you have security that changes the login page?

@Nick-B, I cleaned out Local and installed back from that link. I imported the 2nd site from last time, first this time, no change. I also gutted the security plugin from the site and imported again, no change. This is usually a SSL issue, and despite it being trusted Local, makes no difference all but one time. The error of no dashboad in the admin bar can be a issue in a normal Wordpress site if there is a plugin blocking it, but I am importing no plugins. So I can only think its the ssl issue. If I try to force site.local/wp-admin I get an error of 'you are not allowed to access this page". So I am kinda giving up.
No such issue with my other site which I imported after, and again it all worked ok.

Are you referring to security settings just for the site, or on your whole machine? If it’s just on the site, as AndyT mentioned it’s likely a plugin causing the issue. On your machine is there a reason you wouldn’t have admin access? Is this a work computer or work network where you’d have to request that from IT?
