I downloaded full backup from wpengine and when I try to import it, I’ve got error
“Sorry! We couldn’t figure out what to do with the import file provided. Please extract it manually”.
I also tried unzipping the archive, adding .sql file and zipping it again.
The error was the same.
Please advise.
Hey @emipajk –
Local tries to do its best to import a site from any number of archives that are created from WordPress sites.
The two main things that Local needs are:
- There’s a database dump in the form of a sql file
- The various pieces of a site’s code from the
wp-content
folder
I would recommend creating a temporary folder somewhere, for example, the desktop, and then copying the database dump as well as the wp-content
folder from the backup that you received from WP Engine.
From there, zip up the temporary folder and try dragging and dropping it onto Local.
If you are still receiving that error, then it might be due to some compression software that is creating a zip file that Local can’t read. You might try using the default compression program that comes with the operating system to create the zip.
Hope that helps give some things to try. Let me know if you run into any other issues!
When local is pulling a site from WP Engine, where does it store the database dump?
